The goslings at the lake have a condition called ‘Angel Wing’. This is caused by too much carbohydrates and protein in their diet. The most likely source is all the bread which is being fed to the Geese and wildfowl on the lake.
It would seem likely they will never be able to fly, however we can but hope for the best.
For many years we have provided advice at the lake on not feeding the wildfowl bread, and offered suggestions of more nutritious and natural alternatives. Sadly, these goslings are an example of what happens if ducks and geese are fed too much ‘junk food’.
SO PLEASE DO NOT BRING BREAD WITH YOU TO FEED THE DUCKS AND GEESE IN THE NATURE RESERVE.
