NO PROFESSIONAL DOG WALKERS
All activities of a business nature, carried out for profit, are not allowed in the nature reserve.
How long has the reserve not allowed professional dog walkers in the reserve?
The policy has been in place since 2005 and is periodically reviewed by the reserve’s management team.
Why are professional dog walkers not allowed to walk dogs in the nature reserve?
There are two main reasons:
- Firstly, following complaints from other users regarding the excessive number of dogs and behaviour of dogs brought to the nature reserve by professional dog walkers.
- Secondly, the land is designated as a community asset, for the use of the local community, primarily as a nature reserve. The charity which manages the nature reserve has a clause in its lease of the land, which prevents the use of the land by businesses, purely with the intention of making a profit.
How can I comment on this policy, if I wish it to be changed?
Please forward any comments you wish to make to the Chairman of the Vinters Valley Nature Reserve management committee, via email. Contact details are on the notice boards, found within the reserve. You can also find our contact details on our contact page.
Can I ask the warden to allow me entry to the reserve as a professional dog walker?
In short, no, the warden is paid to manage the nature reserve, but policy decisions are made by the management team and the warden is requested to implement these policies.
