Guidelines for Photographing Wildlife

Camera

Vinters Valley Nature Reserve is primarily a Nature Reserve and therefore cannot be treated in the same way as a park or open space. It requires care and attention from all of our visitors to maintain this special place for all wildlife and people to enjoy.

We welcome visitors to take photos of the many different species of wildlife, found within the reserve, however we would please ask that the following guidelines are observed:

  • The most important rule, that must be observed at all times, is the welfare of the wildlife and it is more important than a photograph
  • Taking a photo should not be undertaken if it puts the wildlife or a subject at risk
  • The period of disturbance should be kept to a minimum
  • Keep to the maintained paths and public areas of the reserve
  • Do not destroy any habitat (by creating clearings, new tracks or pathways)
  • Dogs are to be kept out of the lake enclosure area
  • No hides or photographic equipment to be left in the reserve
  • The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 must be complied with at all times. It is an offence to recklessly or intentionally disturb a species while it is building a nest, in or near a nest containing eggs or young

If you wish to take photographs, in certain areas of the reserve, please obtain permission first from Steve Songhurst (Reserve Warden). For contact details, please see the notice boards found within the reserve or use the Contact page on our website.

With your help, Vinters Valley Nature Reserve will remain a safe haven for the wildlife and visitors to enjoy for many years to come.

Thank you for your co-operation
