Winter Wildlife Activity Days

Can you help us maintain the nature reserve?

Once a month we will run monthly volunteer activity days where you can burn a few calories for conservation!

We work at a gentle pace and aim for an enjoyable day out helping to maintain and improve the reserve. No experience is necessary, training and tools are provided and along with tea, coffee and biscuits etc.

Usually we will work through until approximately 12.30 pm with a mid morning tea break around 11.00 – 11.15am.

Walking boots (or stout shoes) will be fine, unless stated otherwise, but as always dress for the expected weather conditions.

Sunday 19th January 2020 – Reptile improvement in a field near our main Lodge Road entrance

Help needed to cut back the rapidly spreading bramble and allow the grass sward to re-establish itself, creating a better habitat for our slow worms and reptiles.

Meet at 9.30am at our main store in Lodge Road

Sunday 16th February 2020 – Habitat improvements in grassland below The Lake

Help us make this a haven for a variety of pollinating insects. Grass cutting, raking, a small amount of scrub clearance, plus trimming back the hedges.

Meet at 9.30am at The Lake

Sunday 8th March 2020 – Habitat improvements in our main conservation field

Help us improve the area for reptiles and butterflies with a bit of bramble bashing!

Meet at 9.30am at The Lake

These really are great days out for both youngsters (perhaps doing a conservation badge in Scouts or Duke of Edinburgh awards) and the young at heart who like to be outdoors and away from the decorating!

If you haven’t been to an activity day before and would like to know more, then please feel free to contact me via our websites contact us page or see the notice boards in the reserve for more contact details.
