Latest News - September 2010

We have now cleared and refilled the feeding station and feeding area.

Information

There are many different species of birds that can be found in the reserve, and all of them are looking for food to stay alive.

To help, in January 2009 a new Bird Feeding Station was created in the reserve. It is located just outside the Vinters Valley Lodge and attracts a number of different species. Visitors to the reserve can watch and monitor the birds through holes cut into the wooden fence panels. (kindly donated by Boxley Timber & Fencing Supplies LTD)

The feeding station offers peanuts, grain, sunflower seeds, and fat balls. Since the station was setup a total of twelve different species have been seen, and the numbers keep increasing.

During August the feeding station was improved. With the help and funding of Barclays Bank a new wildlife pond was created, allowing birds to drink and bathe.

At the feeding station is a list and details of the species being seen and photos to help you identify the birds you see.

So the next time you are visiting the reserve why not take a look and see what birds are feeding.

Thank you to all our supporters who have helped build and make the feeding station.

Following the success of the Feeding Station at the lodge, another feeding area has been created in Netley Meadow.

Already it has started to attract a number of different species. Unlike the Feeding Station at the lodge, this feeding area currently does not have a viewing fence. Please could we also kindly ask dog walkers to not allow their dogs to run into the area and distrub the birds. Thank you.

The feeding area offers peanuts, grain, sunflower seeds, and fat balls. Since the new area was setup a total of five different species have been seen

So the next time you are visiting the reserve why not take a look and see what birds are feeding.

Thank you to all our supporters who have kindly donated spare old feeders to make the feeding area.
