Bird Boxes project - Diary
pages - 24th March 2007
Today saw the another survey carried
out.
Two of the Dormouse boxes are still
being used, two of the Great Tit boxes are being inspected
but sadly there is currently no activity at any the
Blue Tit or Robin boxes. Still it is very early still
and the weather over the last few days has been cold.
There is also some very exciting news
to report. A pair of Blue Tits have claimed and started
to build a nest in one of the Great Tit boxes. They
have started to bring in some small bits of grass.
During the survey we found evidence that the birds
are also stripping off tiny strips of bark, from a
nearby tree, and using that as nesting material. We
can only describe the material as like fine strands
of hair. We will add a photo to this diary entry shortly
to show you what we mean.
The next survey will be carried out
on Saturday 31st March, were hopefully some more activity
will be recorded.
The results from today's survey can
now be viewed on this website. Please visit the "Survey
Results" pages for more details.
