Bird Boxes project - Diary
pages - 19th April 2008
The weather was wet and windy again, and as a result activity at all the boxes in use was low.
Also due to the weather I did not manage to survey Zones 5, 6, 7 & 8. The weekly survey results are available for these zones though.
We are now beginning to see nests being built, and even a few eggs being laid.
We checked on the new Robins nest carefully, using binoculars. The nest looked complete. Normally Robins lay around four-six eggs, so incubation can will start soon.
The Robins nest in Zone 2 is still safe and possibly the female has now started to incubate her eggs.
Whilst going around the Photographic Walk, on Sunday 20th, we checked on a Robins nest we found last week. The four eggs laid have now hatched and four hungry chicks are now being feed by the parents.
Hopefully the weather will now improve and warm up. Will this year be another bad year for our feathered friends?
A Dawn Chours walk is taking place on Sunday 4th May 2008, starting at 5am. If you would like to attend please contact us for more details or visit the Events section of this website.
