Bird Boxes project - Diary pages - 16th March 2008

First I would like to apologies to everyone who reads our bird box diary entires. I only realised on Sunday 16th March that I had not put the last diary and results live from 8th March. The results for 8th March survey can now be found by visits the "survey results" page.

Today saw the third survey take place. Due to commitments I could not carry out the survey on Saturday so I went around on Sunday.

When I looked out the door and saw the weather I thought there was no chance of any birds visiting any of the boxes today. The sky was grey with light drizzle. Yuck!. Armed with my coat I went around all the zones and checked each box.

In Fullingpits Woods (Zone 1) there were many Blue & Great Tits flying around with each other. I also heared and saw the first ChiffChaff of the year. Six boxes showed signs of birds using them.

A pair of Blue Tits were going into one of the box every three minutes. The box being used by a roosting Blue Tit each night was still in use and some small bits of moss were found in one of the old Dormouse boxes.

By the time I had finished surveying Fullingpits Woods the weather turned for the worst with rain & near gale force winds. I went around all the other boxes but the weather certainly had an effect and no visits were recorded to any of the other boxes.

Hopefully the weather will improve, over the next few days, but the forecast for next Saturday and the Easter break is for possible snow.

The results for today (16th March) are now available to view, by going to the "Survey Results" section.

The next survey will be carried out on 22nd March 2008.

If you think you can help with the surveys please contact us.
